About Our Logo

The day sky above, the night sky below, the shimmering Sun, all in the form of a sundial.

Those are the key aspects of what we do at Digital Gnomon, we track the Sun and the Sun's impact on your Renewable Energy System.

The light blue in the upper half of the logo represents the daytime sky, when solar production occurs. The three times on the sundial face indicate 6am, 12 noon and 6pm, the times of the rising, midday and setting Sun on the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes.

The change from light blue to dark blue represents the diurnal tides in both the atmosphere and the oceans that power wind and tidal power. Twice a day the atmospheric pressure rises and falls, as the Sun's gravity pulls the atmosphere around the Earth, producing winds. The Sun warms the air and produces winds that flow from lakes and oceans to the land, and back again when the Sun sets and the air cools. The Sun and Moon together pull the Oceans around the Earth, causing tides to rise and fall, providing the energy for Tidal Power.

The shimmering Sun represents the heat from the Sun that powers solar thermal plants, operates solar hot water heaters, and passive solar heating for buildings.

The upper tip of the gnomon points towards Polaris, the North Star, and represents latitude, a commonly used angle of inclination for solar collectors. The top edge of the gnomon is one of two axises used by solar trackers. It represents our ability to track the Sun's location as it passes through the sky.

Our name, Digital Gnomon, in machine readable type, represents our use of technology to monitor and manage your Renewable Energy System. The name leads upwards, representing our committment to expanding the use of technology and our abilities to meet your needs.
